Cordillera Huayhuashy Cajatambo Trek

CORDILLERA HUAYHUASH - CAJATAMBO TREK (09 days / 08 nights)

This colourful circuit of the Cordillera Huayhuash, offers overwhelming views of glistening vertical walls of ice, rock and snow that challenge the endurance and imagination of the most seasoned trekkers.  Because of the geography and the quality of ice and snow, climbers compare this range with the Himalayas, and many come here before attempting the highest peaks on Earth. Huayhuash is a land of geographical contrast and extreme conditions, where native people co-exist with the elements as their ancestors did millennia ago. These friendly local people provide the human perspective for us to understand the inter-relations with this people with their once sacred mountains or Apus.  Ancient people worshiped the mountains as a source of water and therefore Agriculture that made Peru one of the greatest civilizations of the ancient world. Here you will feel that spiritual power while being overwhelmed with the view of these iced giants taking your breath away.  Colorful pristine waters of the beautiful lakes found in this circuit reflect as giant mirrors the astonishing  peaks of Yerupajá (6634m), Jerupajá Chico (6121m), Jirishanca (6094m), Rondoy (5879m), Sarapo (6127m), Siulá Grande (6344m), and Siulá Chico (6265m), Rondoy (5879m), Jurau (5674m), Trapecio (5644m), and Carnicero (5960m), among others. In open sky-evenings, sparkling stars, constellations and even views of the milky-way with the shining moon will illuminate the valleys below in a magically silent concert of beauty and light.  After days of total solitude with the mountains, we finish our circuit in the town of Cajatambo.

From Cajatambo, our car brings us down toward the coastal valleys by an equally challenging series of narrow canyons of solid granite, formed by cataclysmic events and ice and water erosion during the formation of the Andes.  Even now, modern geological and glaciological events still constantly re-shaping the Andean geography. We arrive to lower rich agricultural valleys whose greenery sharply contrast with the dry rocky mountains and fluvial small beaches and alluvial lands formed by the river and ancient avalanches. We arrive at the sand coastal deserts along the Pacific Ocean, and then to Lima.
